Team Member Focus February: David Campbell

Book Delivery

Last month we caught up with Operations Assistant, Louise. She shared with us the unexpected food she can’t stand and why the 1960s tickles her fancy.

In the hot seat for February is David the Depot Supervisor at our busy Glasgow base. This is David’s second time as part of the Eagle Couriers team and in total he has worked with us for more than a decade.

Read on to find out about who David would invite to dinner, his love of karaoke and his run-in with a Taggart body prop:

What do you do at Eagle Couriers?

I am a depot supervisor at the Glasgow base. I’m in charge of the logistics at the warehouse with regards to the drivers and the movement and storage of goods.

It has been around six months since I took on this role and I’m really enjoying it.

How long have you been working at Eagle Couriers?

This is actually my second spell at Eagle Couriers. Initially I was a driver for five years from 2004 until 2009.

I started my second spell in 2012 and have been here since then!

Do you have any strange delivery stories/ encounters from your time at Eagle couriers?

Yes, there have been a few over the years! Every single job is different, so it changes day to day.

One of the weirdest would have to be a dead body prop from Taggart. I picked it up from STV and it was scarily life-like!

What do you enjoy most about working at Eagle Couriers?

Just like my answer to the previous questions, the job is different every day. Different contracts require different needs so no two days are the same.

What’s something unexpected about you?

A lot of my friends would probably say I’m a ‘hard nose’, but in reality I’m a family man and a bit of a softie!

The second of my two daughters, Jennifer and my two granddaughters, recently emigrated to Perth, Australia to join my other daughter Amanda and her two boys, and it’s been tough to adapt to life without them now that they’re all on the other side of the world.

Thankfully, I am going over to see them in three weeks’ time and I’m counting the days. It will be my third trip in two years so I should also take this opportunity to thank Eagle Couriers for granting my holidays!! I plan to retire over there in the coming years.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m a sociable guy and really enjoy going out at the weekends with my wife of 40 years, Jackie. I do karaoke – The Proclaimers and Elvis are amongst my favourite artists to perform! I’m not the best singer but I have commitment!

When I’m having a slightly quieter night, I play dominoes in the Maryhill Dominoes League. I don’t like to brag, but I did recently finish first place in a tournament, so I hold the bragging rights!

What’s one food that you can’t stand?

Spinach – I can’t stand it! My wife is a great cook and her homemade curry is one of my favourite things to eat.

If you could live inside the world of any book/ TV / series or film which one would it be and why?

I predominantly watch border patrol and transport logistics documentaries… surprising that! I especially enjoy documentaries about airport logistics and would enjoy that kind of role in another life.

As for fiction, I do enjoy the Ian Rankin ‘Rebus’ books and TV shows, so I would like to be part of that world seeing as I could probably recite most of the lines from it!

What kind of animal do you think you’d be?

A giraffe – I could look down on people and walk around with grace!

If you could have dinner with any five people living or dead, who would it be and why?

Both of my parents, first and foremost. It would be great to see them again.

For the other three people it would probably be some big characters from the 1960s, such as John F. Kennedy, John Lennon and maybe even Elvis Presley for a duet!

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only bring three things with you what would they be and why?

My wife, my two dogs and a television. It would be nice to get away from my mobile phone for a bit.

If you could have any super power what would it be and why?

Time travel so that I could go back and change things from my past. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say.

If you could travel to any point in time, where would you go?

Bethlehem to a couple of thousand years ago so I could meet Jesus Christ.

If you could teleport yourself anywhere in the world right now where would it be?

Without any hesitation it would be Perth, Australia to see my family!
