Last month we spoke to one of our self-employed courier drivers Bert about all things motor racing and favourite foods.
This month it’s the turn of June Dyer, one of our amazing courier drivers based in Edinburgh. June has worked for Eagle Couriers since 1985 and has clocked up enough miles to drive to the moon and back!
As she has worked for over 32 years, June has had some memorable and strange deliveries during her time with Eagle including picking up an A-lister’s wedding dress and a lost cat.
Find out why June loves working for Eagle and what she would choose to bring to a desert island:
What do you do at Eagle Couriers?
I work as one of the company’s many couriers.
How long have you been working at Eagle Couriers?
About 32 years. I have worked for Eagle since it started in 1985. Back then it was just a small operation based in Edinburgh.
Do you have any strange delivery stories/encounters from your time at Eagle couriers?
I have quite a few strange ones to pick from, I once picked up Madonna’s wedding dress from Edinburgh Airport. Or another time I delivered a pair of dentures that were left in a hotel and returned them to their owner.
Probably the most memorable one, however, was when I returned a lost cat to its owner in 2008. Samson had vanished from his home in Penicuik and was later found 500 miles away in Plymouth! Needless to say, his owner was delighted when I reunited them both.
What do you most enjoy about working at Eagle Couriers?
The variety, every day is different. I also love driving and I love Edinburgh so the job suits me to a T.
What’s something unexpected about you?
Probably the sheer amount of miles I have driven since working with Eagle. I drive an average of 700 miles a week for the last 32 years – so that’s enough miles to have driven to moon and back!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy golfing and water skiing – I am really into water sports.
What’s one food that you can’t stand?
I hate fish as I am allergic. But my favourite food would definitely be a rare steak. When I am in France I take it blue but I go for rare over here.
If you could live inside the world of any book/ TV / series or film which one would it be and why?
My favourite film is Wall Street so I would probably like to be a character in that – I like the financial side of it all.
What kind of animal do you think you’d be?
I think I’d be a cat, as they are nice and soft.
If you could have dinner with any 5 people living or dead, who would it be and why?
That’s a tough one. I don’t think I can name as many as 5 but Cliff Richard would definitely be one of them.
I had dinner with him once, years ago, when he did a concert at the Playhouse. I had gone out for dinner before and he was in the same restaurant so we shared a table! He was lovely and so down to earth.
If you were stranded on a desert Island – and you could only bring three things with you – what would they be and why?
Water, music (something modern but not pop), and a hairbrush – I couldn’t live with tangles in my hair!
If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
To create world peace – the world is in such a mess at the moment and something needs to sort it out.
If you could travel to any point in time, where would you go?
I actually don’t think I would choose to go anywhere! I am quite happy living in the present.
If you could teleport yourself anywhere in the world right now where would it be?
Well, I’ve already driven to the moon and back so I think I would like to go again!
