Euan Pollock, Senior Operations Assistant
Providing excellent courier services in Scotland to our clients is a top priority here at Eagle Couriers.
Our dedicated team works hard every day to ensure our customers have a positive experience. One team member who exemplifies our commitment to outstanding service is Euan Pollock.
This month we are shining a light on Euan and getting to know him a little better:
1.Tell us about yourself
I began my career in the transport sector after leaving school. I have had various jobs and roles which involved transport, logistics, and delivery services however I always moved on from those jobs as I found that a social aspect was always missing which is something I want in a role.
I started with Eagle Couriers in October 2021 in the operations department and since then have gone on to secure a role working alongside both Eagle Courier and Eagle Aviation.
2.Describe a typical day in operations at Eagle Couriers
Every day is varied and unpredictable, in the best way possible. No two days are the same which make it interesting.
My main daily tasks include customer bookings, calls, emails, and billing as well as depot performance reviews. I think I love the role so much as operations gives you knowledge of the whole business instead of one department, you get to speak to various people throughout the day from different departments, providing me with a big social aspect.
3.What has been your favourite thing about the company since moving over in 2021?
Eagle always has a great friendly atmosphere, which makes going into work every day an easy task. We are all able to have a good laugh with each other, which makes it a very fun place to work.
Another aspect is that everyone supports one another and wants everyone and the business to succeed. If you’re struggling or stuck on a task, someone’s always there to give you a hand or guide you through.
If you come in with a limited number of skills, you will leave having plenty. At Eagle, they really do take you under their wing.
4.What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your job?
The biggest challenge I faced was the changeover between working with Eagle Couriers and working closely with Eagle Aviation. Although they are closely connected, they handle two very different areas of focus and so getting used to the new processes was a big undertaking.
I am now much more comfortable and have learned the ropes, but I now have a great knowledge of both companies which is so beneficial has made all the hard work worth it.
5.What has been your funniest memory of your time at Eagle Couriers?
That is a hard one as there are so many! You always get some interesting client requests, but I think one of my favourite ones so far was probably when we were asked to organise for a pigeon to be delivered. Although that is something Eagle Couriers can do, it was a fun request to deal with.
6.What skills do you think are important to excelling in operations?
Eagle Couriers really help you grow in your role by providing you with training and the foundations you need to excel, however I think useful skills to have when going into the operations field would be to have strong organisation and problem-solving skills.
I would also say it’s important to be able to ask for help when you need it, everyone needs a helping hand sometimes and everyone at Eagle is more than happy to help out and pass on the knowledge where they can.
We pride ourselves on the courier services in Scotland we give to our customers, and are pleased to have NHS, Scottish Government, and Scottish Police Authority amongst our customers.
